GIGABYTE Safeguards Users From Speculative Execution Vulnerability

We want to make an announcement that all our major platforms have received bios updates to keep your systems protected against Speculative Execution Vulnerability threats.

Taipei, Taiwan, January 11st, 2018 – GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Co. Ltd, a leading manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards, has promptly implemented safety and precautionary measures aligned with Intel®’s response to safeguard customers against security vulnerabilities on systems utilizing Speculative Execution and indirect branch prediction.

The newly released BIOS updates from GIGABYTE integrate the latest Intel advised CPU Microcode versions to mitigate issues potentially caused by the security vulnerability. Customers who have purchased a GIGABYTE board are strongly recommended to visit the GIGABYTE official website immediately for the latest BIOS updates. Please refer to the following micro link for the list of available BIOS updates by models (currently offers updates for models that support 6th/7th/8th generation Intel® Core™ processors and X99/X299 platform): https://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/481/intel-sa-00088.html

The security vulnerability arises from a new side-channel analysis method developed by external researchers that gathers information by observing the physical behavior of certain processing techniques that are common to modern computing platforms. Malicious code using this method and running locally on a normally operating platform could infer data values from memory. Based on GIGABYTE and Intel’s current assessment of these exploits we believe that they do not have the potential to corrupt, modify or delete data.

After being notified about this industry-wide potential security issue, GIGABYTE is working with our silicon providers in developing solutions to mitigate these issues as soon as reasonably possible. Updated software and firmware mitigations should be available in the next few days and will continue to be released over the next few weeks.

For more information on the Intel security vulnerabilities, please visit the Intel Security Center website for further details: https://security-center.intel.com/advisory.aspx?intelid=INTEL-SA-00088&languageid=en-fr

Any issues affecting the user’s experience with GIGABYTE motherboards is of the utmost importance. GIGABYTE is committed to fulfilling the highest standards for quality and service of its motherboards.

Introducing ASUS H370 and B360 motherboards from ROG, TUF Gaming, and Prime

Intel’s first batch of Coffee Lake desktop CPUs added cores  alongside a high-end Z370 platform  primed for overclocking. The increased horsepower is ideal for people who do more with their PCs, whether it’s serious work like content creation and video editing, or recreational tasks like live-streaming gaming sessions. But extra cores aren’t limited to flagship territory. They extend all the way down to the entry-level Core i3, and today they’re joined by new H370 and B360 platforms that bring additional connectivity to affordable price points. We’ve deployed these chipsets across a complete family of ASUS 300-series motherboards that help everyone get the most out of their PCs. A new generation built on an evolved foundation Every build and user is different, so we offer a range of options across ROG, TUF Gaming, and Prime lines. While each family has distinct aesthetics and personalities, all three draw from core ASUS DNA that has been carefully refined over nearly 30...

Escape inside the ASUS HC102 Windows Mixed Reality Headset

VR has quickly become one of the most exciting new technologies around, especially for the PC industry. Although we’re still a ways from the Holodeck, the experiences available today will recalibrate your expectations for immersion. Sure, you know you’re not really blasting swarms of enemy drones in a futuristic spaceport, taking in the view from the summit of Mount Everest, or rearranging furniture in the seaside abode of your dreams. But the combination of slick graphics, intuitive interaction, and fluid motion tracking blurs the line just enough to forget everything outside your new digital existence. While initial virtual reality solutions for the PC have been transformative, their realities have also been complicated. The required external sensors complicate setup, and steep system requirements shut out machines that lack serious horsepower. Being strapped in for prolonged periods is also no picnic, often leading to fatigue and a flush VR face that hamper how long you can sus...

The ZenFone 5 takes smartphone photography to the next level with AI and multi-camera setups

There was a time when the only way to get a great smartphone was to fork over upwards of $800 for the latest flagship. If you didn’t have that kind of money to spend, you were better off buying last year’s best handset than enduring the crappy screens, low resolution cameras, and stingy amounts of RAM that plagued more affordable devices. With the  ZenFone 4 , we set out to build an  entire line of phones  based around the idea that high-end features, like fingerprint sensors and dual camera setups, shouldn’t be reserved for just flagships. The ZenFone 5 family is built on the same principle: high-end finishes, awesome battery life, and amazing photos are possible at any price point. But this year, we’re taking it one step further with gorgeous full-view displays, stunning metal-and-glass designs, and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs, including the 845. Three new ZenFones are headed for North America in the coming months. Each one features at least 4GB of RAM, 6...
